Thrales End Farm & Business Centre

SUSTAINABILITY

Since 1996 we have been focussed on farming sustainably. We have carried this approach into our events enterprise and business park, reimagining existing farm buildings and giving them a sustainable future. Leading by example, Thrales End was one of the UK’s earliest adopters of regenerative farming.

OUR GOAL

To sequester as much carbon as possible. A rigorous no till regime since 2014 has seen soil organic matter increased threefold and metrics for our soil health and biology, not to mention worm numbers are equally encouraging.

FROM FIELDS TO THE FARMYARD

No Till has reduced our diesel use, fertiliser and pesticide applications.  We use less steel, less rubber, less person hours.  Meanwhile, the nutrient density of our crops has increased.

Our offices have been converted to have LED lighting. Heating is electric and nearly all of the windows and doors are now upgraded to higher energy performance PVC.

There are solar panels at Thrales End and more planned.  We use a biomass boiler to heat one of our larger sites and are working with our utility providers to have a more sustainable energy supply.

We have a detailed net zero plan and are working with Cranfield University and Track Zero software to help us reduce our scope 1, 2 and 3.
